Mabie Forest, just on the outskirts of Dumfries nestled in Southern Scotland is home to a vast choice of walks and trails for all ages and abilities, world class 7 Stanes mountain biking trails, adventure playground, wildlife and butterfly reserve.
With stunning views across the picturesque Solway coast and beyond at almost every turn, and plenty of wildlife watching opportunities throughout the forest there really is something for everyone at Mabie.
At the main trailhead car park (charges apply – although hotel guests can park at the hotel for free) there are toilets and picnic benches.
The views from my room (5) were spectacular, the hotel itself is a magnificent old building and the staff are very efficient, kind and relaxed. Everybody gets married here, it is a spectacular setting if you want peace and quiet, great food , a bar and a lovely front room with a fireplace. Though the house is old, with wonderful stained glass windows, the bathrooms have been updated, so you get the best of both worlds, the rooms were large, the furniture and beds comfy. and the place was very clean, with coffee and tea in the rooms. Basil the parrot welcomes you as you go up the stairs. I sampled breakfast, lunch and dinner there and was very pleased. Save room for dessert! Thank you!
